Cervesa Patagonia

The other evening a went to eat at a pub with a fellow TEFL student. I had a ensalsda which had to my suprise lettuce with pickles, sundried tomatoes and carrots. I find salads here are never what I expect but I keep trying to find a place where I can get a good salad.

To make up for my unusual salad I had a amazing beer. It was as good as Newcastle to me and it was brewed in patigonia. I thought I would share this information because Dad was wondering about the beer down here. In general most people drink their version of budlight but there are some bars and breweries around that are very good.

Jardin Botanica

I took advantage of the nice weather we had earlier this week and went to the jardin botanica. For those of you that don't know this is a garden designed by the landscape achitect Charles Thays, a French man who loved this city that he made it his home and made it look a little like France. It is a very beautiful garden that is stuck right in the middle of two very very busy streets.

I spent my afternoon on a bench doing my Spanish homework and enjoying the sunshine. Hanging out with me were hundreds and thousands of cat that I think are just as much part of the garden as the trees and plants.

New plants

Joesph and Nicholas you would be excited by some of the different plants that around here. I noticed some trees that have these funny trunks that sometimes buldge out like a bottle form. Also they sometimes have lots of these hard core spikes sticking out of the bark so it looks like dinosaur skin.

I know how much you like new plants so I thought I would share. If I come across any other I will time to document them too!

Monday I had my first Spanish class, moved out of the hostel and into my room. It feels good to have my own space though it was kinda fun have people always being around. I am now going to go and try to find a grocery store so I can prepare for the week and stop eating out for every meal.

Most of you know me and public transportation don't work well together. You would be happy to hear that I have be using it and am getting more confident with it everyday.

Here are some la calle pictures for you mom. The streets around here tend to be very large with large trees. The look very big and impressive in life.

I found a park!

Yesterday was Sunday. It was a beautiful day out and I decided that I would go for a walk to see a new neighborhood in the city. I headed to San Telmo which is known for Sunday market. Everyone is selling something and you could find everything you never needed. I was more interested in the grand avenues, impressive doors and avenue I found myself wandering away from thIe market to the water. I walked a long time, asked where I could find a bathroom and then even found if! Yay!

In my wandering found a park where everyone was walking and running. I enjoyed being away from the city for the moment. There were no cars or buses and the air seemed cleaner. I am a country girl at heart so it was very refreshing to be surrounded by marshgrass and trees.

Oh and lots of people rollerblade! I think I am going to start again :)

Bife!

I went to the best restaurant in Buenos Aires ( according to the books) to get my steak. To make it even better I went with two very funny and interesting Irish lads I met at the hostel. They were in vacation mode and ordered tons of food and then treated me to one of the most decodent meal i have had.

We arrived at 10 for a table and then waited 1.5 hours to sit. It was past 3 am when we left the restaurant! It was all a memorable experiance and might I add the tenderloin was the best steak I think I have ever eaten!

Tast of brazil

I went to a party to celebrate the church being two years of something, a birthday and Easter. There were a large group of us and we represented many parts of the world. There was one girl from Iceland, France, USA, argentina, columbia, and brazil.

The food went something like this: Dulce, homefired empanadas, rice bean and meat Brazilian dish, BBQ ribs, bonbons, cake and coffee. I literally ate all day long.

My head was spinning too because half the people there were speaking portugese and the others Spanish. I did find out the my name is pronounced Hoochi in portugese!!!

Buenos aires

I have now been here for 5 days and am feeling less jet lagged by the minute. Last night I met my connection Brittney for the first time. I joined her and somefriends for a dinner at 10 and went to bed at the very early time of 1:15.

I was early meeting Brittney so a joined the rest of buenos aires for a pre- dinner snack of pastries, cafe and juice. I find these eating patturns suprising but am getting use to it quickly.

Went to lunch on my own. I enjoyed listening to all the people around me and ordering all in Spanish. This place had good looking salads as well, I will probably be back.

A car ride with rose and dad-> a plane flight to LA (and one time through security)->a plane to lima-> never found my shuttle -> long taxi ride and saftly made it to my hostel!

I am wired but should get some rest, I am still waiting for it all to sink in.

My party/show

So this is it! My show and my departure all within hours of each other. I don't know which one I am nervous for. I hope people come to my show I have been putting all my energy into it.

I am so tired and excited at the same time it is all a bit too overwhelming.

The Countdown

It is April 2nd and the countdown is definitely on.

Today I am very excited and am feeling very positive.  Last night's art walk was a very good time and I felt very good about the work I was showing.  I am very grateful for all the support and excitement for me especially one the days when I am overwhelmed.

I still have lots to get done before I leave including the next big firing of the set of dishes for Laura Cooper.  The pots are made, and now we can all think very good thoughts that they will come out perfectly.
